CALIFORNIA STATE ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 20: Assembly panel approves toxic cosmetics ban

California State Assembly District 20 recently issued the following announcement.

Assemblymember Bill Quirk (D-Hayward) called for action on the unfolding global climate crisis with the introduction of his resolution, ACR 143.

Citing his time at NASA, Quirk explained, “The impacts of climate change have become increasingly clear and increasingly dire over the 40 years that I’ve studied what is happening to the planet. In fact, the model I developed when I worked at NASA, which is still in use , indicates that we are in a full-blown crisis. We couldn’t have anticipated the magnitude of what we are seeing.”

ACR 143 recognizes that California has been, and continues to be, a leader in the fight against climate change and has implemented various policies to reduce our greenhouse impact. However, the consequences of climate change are so great they are causing multiple crises statewide and across the globe.

“The combination of these and other factors means that we should stop speaking of climate change and start speaking of, and focusing on, the Climate Crisis. My colleagues and I will continue to do our part and we hope that the rest of the country will follow our lead. I have confidence that many of our global friends will continue to step up in this fight. Inaction is not an option”

In addition to this resolution, Assemblymember Quirk is exploring legislation relating to regional sea-level rise coordination, permitting coordination and providing increasing support to local governments to help with sea-level rise planning.
